A finely executed pietre dure (hard-stone inlay) panel depicting an architectural capriccio, composed of carefully cut and fitted sections of variegated marbles and hardstones, including alabaster, breccia, and coloured stone, arranged to form an imaginary classical landscape with walls, passages, and architectural elements. The natural veining and tonal variation of the stones are skilfully exploited to suggest depth, texture, and age.

Verso inscribed “Roma, 8° Jan” and signed “T. Monanni”, identifying a Roman workshop active in the late 19th century and consistent with Grand Tour production. Set within a later wooden frame with metal liner and mount.
